Güçlü Cem Işık

Ambassador G. Cem Işık was born in Ankara, in 1977. He graduated from TED Ankara College in 1994. After completing his undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of Nottingham in 1997, he obtained his master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of London (SOAS) in 1998.

Ambassador Işık commenced his diplomatic career in 1999 as Attaché at the Deputy Directorate-General for Policy Planning at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as Third Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi (2002-2004), Second Secretary (Disarmament Affairs) at the Permanent Mission of Türkiye to the UN Office in Geneva (2004-2007), First Secretary/Foreign Policy Specialist at the Office of the President of the Republic of Türkiye (2007-2009), Counsellor at the Turkish Delegation to NATO (2009-2013), Head of NATO Department (Military Affairs) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2013-2015), and First Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission at the Turkish Embassy in London (2015-2019).

From 2020 to 2024, Ambassador Işık served as Advisor to the Minister, Deputy Director General for Defence and Security at the Turkish Ministry of National Defence. He was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary in 2022.On 24 November 2023 he was appointed Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus. He assumed his duties as of February 1st, 2024.

Ambassador Güçlü Cem Işık is married and has two daughters.
